ACDH Tool Gallery 5.2: Open Science methods & tools for DH scholars (Vienna, October 22, 2019) #OpenScience #DigitalHumanities

In the context of Digital Humanities, Open Science is gaining popularity both as a concept and as a buzzword. Research funding bodies have discovered Openness as a requirement for the provision of project funding and thematic assemblies such as the Open Science Network Austria (OANA) are being established. With the digital availability of resources being a precondition of Openness, the Digital Humanities are at the forefront of the Open movement in the humanities realm. Yet, “Open Science” is a fluid concept without strict rules or a fixed set of elements necessary for doing it “right”, as Pomerantz and Peek have pointed out in their paper “Fifty shades of open”.

Therefore, the ACDH is organizing a Tool Gallery on the topic of Open Science. Participants will not only benefit from introductions to training opportunities, the national and the international Open Science landscape, but also from an overview of available Open Science tools. Participants will be able to discuss their take on Open Science in an “Open Science Café”, a discussion format developed by FOSTER Plus, and enter into a fruitful exchange with Austrian and international Open Science experts.
