One of the most influential and intriguing books of the 16th century was written by the scholar and printer Geoffrey Tory (1480-1533). He defined his letter designs on mathematics and sought to bring them in harmony with the rule that governed the universe with it’s celestial spheres.
Tory was not a great printer, but he was the teacher of Garamond, probably the greatest type designer who ever lived.
