Summer School History of the Book (17.-28.08.2015 Amsterdam)

Monday 17 through Friday 28 August 2015

Register now for the Summer School History of the Book, organised by the Special Collections and the Research Group for Book and Manuscript Studies of the University of Amsterdam.

Since 2010, the Research Group for Book and Manuscript Studies and the Special Collections of the University of Amsterdam have been organising a Summer School on the History of the Book, which takes place in August each year.

The summer school offers an ‚à la carte‘ programme. Participants can choose one module, opt for a full two-week programme, or any variation in between. The courses are interesting for anyone who would like to learn more about the history of the book, whether you are a student, library or museum staff, or simply interested in books and manuscripts, libraries and antiquarian bookshops, printing techniques and typography.

Two courses will be held in English. Dutch is the language of instruction in the other courses and the workshops. Participants have access to an information desk and a coffee corner set up especially for them before, during and after the courses and workshops.

During the summer school, there will also be a three-day seminar about embroidered bindings. The seminar will be held in English. The seminar is being organised in collaboration with the Centre for Renaissance and Early Modern Studies, University of York, in conjunction with Illuminare – Centre for the Study of Medieval Art, University of Leuven, the Leiden University Library and the National Library of the Netherlands in The Hague.

In this edition of the summer school, the organisation can count on the kind cooperation of the Folger Shakespeare Library, Washington D.C., of the Amsterdam City Archives and of the Wim Crouwel Institute.
