The New York Public Library is installing a mini train system to deliver books throughout its flagship building in midtown Manhattan. The conveyor system consists of 24 cars running on 950 feet of vertical and horizontal tracks through 11 storeys of the library. The cars can carry up to 30 pounds of materials and move at 75 feet per minute. Electronic sensors are installed on the rails to ensure proper delivery. The library required a faster delivery system following the expansion of the storage area, which holds 4 million research volumes.
