On October 6, 2015, science publisher Jan Velterop gave a talk on „Peer Review – limitations, future development, alternatives“ at IST Austria. As peer review is often seen as the crux of scientific journal publishing, he recently proposed a way to reform peer review. His „peer review by endorsement“ would make the process more reliable and transparent, and much cheaper to the scientific community. Velterop’s talk was part of a lecture series „New Trends in Scholarly Communication“, initiated by IST Austria, the Austrian Academy of Sciences, and the Austrian Science Fund.
