Saß, Janine: Bestandsvisualisierung in Bibliotheken
Zusammenfassung: Bibliotheken stehen seit jeher vor der Aufgabe, große Datenmengen zu verwalten und diese den Nutzern zugänglich zu machen. Bestandsvisualisierungen bieten dazu neue Potenziale, diese Aufgabe zu bewältigen und die Informationsrecherche, Ergebnisdarstellung und -analyse bibliografischer Bestandsdaten zu optimieren. Der folgende Artikel zeigt anhand verschiedener Beispiele aus dem bibliothekarischen Kontext, dass Bestandsvisualisierungen in der Lage sind, Zusammenhänge darzustellen, explorative Suchstrategien zu fördern und Kontextualisierungen zu ermöglichen. Die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse aus der Analyse der Beispiele fließen anschließend in die Konzeption einer eigenen Visualisierung in Form eines bibliothekarischen Katalog-Interfaces.

Saß, Janine: Collection visualization in libraries
Abstract: Libraries have always been faced with the challenge to manage large amounts of data and make them accessible to users. Inventory visualizations offer new potentials to overcome this task and to optimize information retrieval and the presentation and analysis of results of bibliographic data. The following article shows various examples in the library context and that collection visualizations are able to represent relationships, to encourage exploratory search strategies and to enable contextualization. The knowledge gained from the analysis of the examples is transferred into a conceptual design of an own visualization in form of a library catalog interface.
