Stellenausschreibung Cochrane Austria: Information Specialist (Freie:r Dienstnehmer:in, 16h/Woche, Telearbeit möglich)

The Department for Evidence-based Medicine and Evaluation of the University for Continuing Education Krems is looking to recruit an Information Specialist to work on a variety of evidence synthesis projects for 16 hours/week as independent contractor.

The post holder will develop and carry out high quality literature searches as part of a wider project team. These tasks require good communications skills (negotiation, explanation, and discussion within a project team context to ensure the search strategies developed by the Information Specialist answer the research questions), attention to detail (producing high quality work at pace), and cooperative working as an integral part of a project team.

The post will suit an experienced information specialist, or alternatively an information professional with some experience of undertaking structured literature searches who would like to develop their career further in this area.

The post holder will be supported by Senior Information Specialists.

Job description:

  • Designing, conducting, and updating systematic searches for evidence syntheses (e.g., systematic reviews, rapid reviews)
  • Peer reviewing of search strategies (e.g. PRESS)
  • Ensuring that search methods are documented and reported in line with standards (e.g., Cochrane, PRISMA)
  • Giving advice on search methods (e.g. appropriate databases and supplementary search approaches, relevant subject headings and free text terms)
  • Teaching literature searching and related information skills (online, on-site if possible)
  • Evaluating performance of systematic searches (e.g. sensitivity per database)

We will require evidence of the following qualifications for the application:

  • Academic degree in the field of information science, library and information studies, public health, health sciences or a related field
  • Knowledge of the resources and methods needed to conduct searches for systematic reviews
  • Experience in developing complex search strategies using major electronic databases such as MEDLINE
  • Experience of using reference management software such as EndNote
  • Very good English skills

In addition, the following criteria are desirable:

  • Knowledge of the resources and search methods needed for other types of evidence syntheses (e.g. rapid reviews, qualitative evidence syntheses)
  • Knowledge of tools to support the development of search strategies (e.g. PubMed PubReminer, Systematic Review Accelerator, searchbuildr)
  • Experience in reviewing and evaluating search strategies
  • Command of the German language is a plus
  • Teaching experience

Remote working options possible. International applicants need to consider their country’s tax conditions.

The successful candidate will be hired by the Evidence-based Medicine and Evaluation at the University for Continuing Education Krems, Austria. The salary will be a minimum of 50 EUR per hour.
