The key tasks expected are as follows:
- Assign high quality bibliographic metadata following best practices for growing digital collections and programs, including metadata work in support of the organizational repository.
- Assign bibliographic metadata according to international standards and schemas such as Dublin Core, MARC, AACR2, RDA, and LCSH.
- Perform subject analysis by assigning appropriate subject headings and descriptors using the LCSH and the INIS Thesaurus; classify documents according to the UDC.
- Provide quality control to ensure the consistency, accuracy and accessibility of information sources in the library catalogue.
- Provide expertise for quality bibliographic metadata following best practices and standards for the library’s information resources.
- Provide guidance and assistance for copy and original cataloguing.
- Keep abreast of current international information trends and latest developments in cataloguing and metadata standards, as well as bibliographic and authority control in order to improve library products and services; evaluate new sources for cataloguing and metadata enhancement.
- Assist with developing policies, workflows, and special projects in partnership with other NIS staff and in areas related to bibliographic and metadata control and standards.
- Provide efficient and responsive scientific and technical information services.
