Job Description
The Communication Officer / Web Content Editor will be working in the broader domain of internal and external communication, with a particular focus on maintaining and extending the content of the EBLIDA website, as well as collecting data on libraries across Europe. The main task will be to enhance EBLIDA’s communication in good cooperation with EBLIDA Staff and bodies, as well as with external information providers.
Key areas of responsibility
Maintain the EBLIDA website and the EBLIDA mailing lists on a regular basis;
- Assist the Director in communicating information to the members;
- In consultation with EBLIDA staff and representatives, and others as required, provide web content to make EBLIDA visible in web communities and other online resources; ensure correct usage of EBLIDA design and logo in web environment;
- Manage online internal communication means, such as the Expert groups intranet and support the Director and EBLIDA bodies in using the Internet tools;
- Collect data about libraries inEuropeand publish these online on EBLIDA website;
- Support in the preparation and production ofEBLIDANews;
- Support in the web activities in relation to theEBLIDAAnnual Council meeting and Conference and other workshops and conferences organized or co-organized by EBLIDA.
Main tasks
- Writing and editing web texts;
- Editing images and converting content to other formats (documents to PDF) for online use;
- Supporting EBLIDA bodies in maintaining accurate and up to date communication tools;
- Supporting Information providers;
- Participating in web development projects;
- Developing and creating (online) promotional material;
- Communicating with external providers on content;
- Keeping track of correct usage of EBLIDA design and logo in the internet environment;
- Assisting with any occurring communication activity.
Selection Criteria
- Excellent communication skills including fluent oral and written English and good understanding of Dutch or another official working language of the European Union;
- Demonstrated ability to create accurate, relevant and informative communication content and materials;
- Detailed knowledge of MS Office tools (in particular Word and Excel);
- Knowledge and experience in editorial work, especially for the internet and experience of website management;
- Extensive experience in using CMS and good knowledge of MODX ;
- Extensive experience in using software for image editing (Photoshop);
- Proven ability to participative work practices, workplace diversity and to working effectively in a small team an understanding of the international environment;
- Demonstrated ability to complete work accurately and to short deadlines and the flexibility to be able to juggle different activities with different priorities and deadlines;
- Good understanding of the role and functions of a European professional member based organisation and its role;
- Commitment to the aims of EBLIDA
Terms and conditions of employment
- Location:EBLIDAHeadquarters, Koninklijke Bibliotheek,The Hague, TheNetherlands. Occasional travel outside The Netherlands may be required.
- Hours: 20 hours per week (three days per week). In connection with special events (conferences, workshops, etc.) some work may be expected outside the normal working hours.
- Salary will be based on Scale 6 of the Labour agreement of Dutch Public Libraries : minimum € 1,028, to maximum € 1,401 gross per month (for 20 hours per week), plus a vacation allowance of 8%; In addition you will be entitled to 25 days holiday per year.
- Period of employment: the initial appointment will be for one year, subject to satisfactory performance of responsibilities and duties. The appointment is open to renewal at the end of this period by mutual consent
