“Research Data Management: Organizational, Technical, and Legal Challenges“(15.09.2014, Karslruhe)

The Future of Information Infrastructure – FIZ Karlsruhe invites to the conference “Research Data Management: Organizational, Technical, and Legal Challenges“

September 15, 2014 at ZKM | Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe

The increasing digitization in research and science poses new challenges to research data management. FIZ Karlsruhe will discuss innovative approaches to these issues with internationally renowned experts at the conference “Research Data Management: Organizational, Technical, and Legal Challenges“.

Professional data management is becoming more and more important, in particular in science. The increasing production of digital data and new developments like Open Science, Open Access or the sustainable provision of research data require new approaches in research data management. The basic challenges are: organization and processes, information technology, and the related legal issues.

These challenges have also been identified and expressly mentioned by the German government in its current policy agenda under the item “Digitalisierung und Infrastruktur in der Wissenschaft“ (“Digitization and Infrastructure in Science“).The research information infrastructure will have to cope with these new tasks.

The conference organized by FIZ Karlsruhe responds to these challenges. It aims at scientific librarians and computer specialists (administrators, developers, decision-makers) who are already professionally dealing with management and storage of research data or who will have to work in this field in the near future. The lectures held by internationally renowned speakers will provide as much practical advice and information as possible for those dealing with this topic.

Directly after the conference, from September 16 – 18, 2014, the 13th Preservation and Archiving Interest Group (PASIG) meeting dedicated to similar topics will be held at the same location. This international meeting, hosted in Germany for the first time, will focus on “Research Data“, “Database and Business Process Preservation“, and “AV/Media“. The lectures and panels will offer an excellent opportunity to network and discuss long-term preservation and storage technologies with international experts in these fields. This year’s PASIG meeting is hosted by FIZ Karlsruhe.
